Day Camp

Day Camp at Scotch Plains Campus

Our day camp in Scotch Plains is perfect for the young child. Situated on our four acre campus you may choose form a half day or full day schedule.

Our camp day begins at 9:00AM with roll call for each group. Children are divided into small groups with children of the same age. A dedicated counselor remains with the children throughout their day. Each age group has a flexible curriculum specifically aimed to meet the individual needs of the camper, to present a challenge, to affect accomplishment, and to promote independence. The morning alternates between workshops in music, art, science and cooking, movement, and computers.

In the  afternoon children enjoy group games, story time and (for our younger campers) a quiet nap. A healthy afternoon snack and community sing closes each day.

Program

Specializing in child growth and development, our program is designed to serve each camper individually. First hand experiences provide maximum opportunities for learning, concept formation, self-expression and self confidence. Association, encouragement and exposure build a strong foundation on which the child may reach a rich future.

Creative Arts and Crafts

Various media are introduced to the different age groups. Although we stress the process of artistic expression over its product, parents are delighted to receive many signed originals throughout the camp season. Each day the camper takes home a new creation, usually reflecting whatever theme the children are exploring that week.

Computers

PC computers are used by the children in a group setting. These computers are introduced to the children according to their ability, and the software chosen reflects a wide range of computer literacy skills and age appropriateness. Each day the children will spend time learning the processes of computer usage as well as reinforcing academic skills.

Music

Our music program is one of the highlights of our camp program. Our talented professional children's musician guides the campers through music appreciation, enhancing auditory skills, singing, rhythm discrimination and drama. The children learn a variety of new songs to share as a community.

Movement

Physical skills are tools used to enhance the child's self-concept. Our program is a combination of successful learning experiences while developing specific gymnastic skills. the playground is fully equipped with challenging ladders, balancing boards, jungle gyms, slides, and swings. Mobile toys provide unlimited enjoyment for our children.
Special Days

Certain days are set aside for special activities. These include picnics, water days, a July 4 celebration and dress up days.

Groupings

The campers follow the program of their own individual groups, but join the other groups for camp-wide activities. Group counselors tend to campers' personal needs, help foster friendships, keep belongings together, take campers from activity to activity and assist certified specialists in each area of our program.  Counselors and teachers remain in the water at all times with the children and are supplemented by surface guards.
